Self taught Álvarez Bravo started photograhy as a teenager, influenced by photograhic journals particularly the work of Edward Weston and Tina Modotti.

His images of his homeland Mexico showing the rituals of everyday life established him as one of the most important figures in 20th Century Latin American Photography.
